This group will be a home for anyone in the Triangle area who doesn't practice a particular religion and might be looking for a friendly secular forum for discussion. We welcome Atheist, Agnostic, Humanist and open-minded Deist brothers and sisters who agree that reason, compassion and free will are more important than obedience to religious institutions or religious dogma as a foundation for a moral and ethical society. Freethinkers, Agnostics, Atheists & Secularists of the Triangle (FAAST) is a social group made up of the non-religious residents of the Triangle region of North Carolina. The purpose is to help non-religious people create a part of their social lives that is free of religious pressure and proselytization, and a place where we can privately discuss aspects of our non-religious lives. Some of the meetups will likely have an irreligious purpose or subject, but many--if not most--will merely be re …

Community leaders, professors, social activists, and our own members inform the society on ethical issues confronting our local community, our nation, and the global community. This is followed by a Q & A session. Refreshments and childcare are provided. On second and fourth Sundays, we discuss the topic of the preceding platform. All meetings are open to the public. For more information on what skepticism is visit http://www.theskepticsguide.org/ Here's a good definition of skepticism from Steven Novella: "A skeptic is one who prefers beliefs and conclusions that are reliable and valid to ones that are comforting or convenient, and therefore rigorously and open …

This group is for Triangle-area citizens of various backgrounds who want to debate and dialogue with people of diverse and opposing views. Debates will be held on politics, economics, religion, science, and many other topics. So many of us get our news and opinion from sources that just reassure us of our already strongly held beliefs. If we do try to engage someone else in a dialogue, it is often from behind a keyboard. Instead of just arguing with each other over the internet why not meet peop …

Inspired by my experience at the TSC Conference, I decided to start this group in hope of extending the conversation to the Triangle area. I have been developing a conceptual framework which addresses issues such as the Explanatory Gap and Hard Problem of Consciousness. The purpose of the group is to foster a community for those of us who are interested in helping to build a contemporary understanding of consciousness.
