This group is for atheists who are secure in their atheism otherwise refer to the other local groups such as Beltway Atheists and Atheist Outreach. Being secure, we can focus on having fun. The purpose of this group is to give atheists a sense of community. Knowing that forming a community based on what one doesn't believe is a futile endeavor, hopefully, we can come together as a fun loving group. Since I'm not interested in debates, let me give you my basis of awareness and be done with it. I …

… Ladies, be aware that there are SOME in the Muslim Community who are looking for wives and then force them into Islam. Atheists females, not being religious, are a easy target. This may be true with other religions, but my experience seems to point to the Islamic religion. By the way, there isn't a need to give a RSVP "no" so I always delete them unless the "No" is accompanied by a non negative comment. We will assume that you will not attend if you don't post a RSVP. Unfortunately, I don't h …

We are as defined by http://the-brights.net. The word, bright, as we use it doesn't mean smart, intelligent, etc. So please don't try to join this group because you want to be around bright people. Brights are a particular type of atheist who strive to not believe but to understand.
I am interested in meeting like-minded people in the area, but not so much in sitting around discussing religion. I thought we could get togther to attend fundraising events, do AIDS or cancer walks, and other good works. I'm trying to gauge interest and I'm open to suggestions!

The need for critical thinking skills and a humanistic outlook in our world is great. This is no less true in the Black community than in others. Many African Americans have been engulfed by religious irrationality, conned by self-serving "faith healers", and swayed by dogmatic revisionist historians. Many others, however, have escaped the oppression of such delusions, and live happy and upstanding lives free of superstition. African Americans for Humanism DC (AAH DC) exists to bring these secul …
