Welcome, Triangle Area Atheists!

Many Atheists feel that they need to hide who they are from their coworkers, family, and friends. The goal of this meetup is to provide a safe place for Atheists to be themselves without fear of repercussion. To this end, membership is open only to those who identify as Atheist or generally non-religious, or are interested in becoming an Atheist.

We have had incidents of religious persons joining the group and starting arguments on our mailing list, and other cases where members have had threatening letters sent to family members because of their affiliation with this group. For these reasons, The group organizers have had to adopt a "zero tolerance" policy in regards to membership.

We will not be checking your "Atheist credentials" at the door, but I will take any reports of abuse seriously, and anyone using the mailing list to try to convert members to a religion, argue creationism, or similar topics will be removed. There are many other places on the internet where that type of discussion is encouraged. This meetup is for Atheists to gather and socialize without having to defend themselves.
