The subject of consciouness is the most vexing in both philosophy and science, and no less tractable in psychology, where the conceptual problems are often neglected. Dr. Daniel N. Robinson takes us on a journey of discovery. From the concept of the "Zombie" through the concept of "Other Minds" and finally to "Consciousness and the End of Life"
This evening, the Delaware Association for Humanism, in cooperation with the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Newark, presents lecture Seven: "Physicalism Refined" and lecture Eight: "Consciousness and Physics". The lectures deal with two alternative theories, the "Idenity Theory" and the "Supervenience Theory". Also discussed are the arguments from the laws of thermodynamics and quatum physics in pursuit of a solution to the question of the unification of the physical and the mental states.
The lectures are free and open to the public. However, it is asked of all attendees to make a donation in helping to defray the costs of presenting the lectures.
