Who organized?
Dave Martin

This meeting has been scheduled to chart the future course of the Delaware Association for Humanism (DAH) pending the resignation of Dave Martin from the board of directors. While Dave will continue as a member of the DAH, he is resigning to concentrate his energies on a new non profit, the Secular Union for Delaware.

This new organization will have a narrower focus than the Delaware Association for Humanism as it will deal specifically with separation of church/state issues and will serve as the local coordinator for the Earth Policy Institute of Washington, D.C.. The Secular Union for Delaware's "first act" will be opposing the use of an invocation beginning Wilmington City Council's meetings. Dave Martin will address the council informing them of the unconstitutional aspect of such use. The city council meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, October 15th in council chambers, City/County Bldg. 8th and French Sts. in Wilmington, De.

Its hoped the Secular Union for Delaware (SUD) will become affilated with the Delaware Association for Humanism. SUD will perform DAH's 'dirty work' as it'll be publicly active in opposing the influence of religion on secular society. SUD is open to a 'brights' and ethical atheists who do not fear being affiliated with an organization whose existence may turn out to be 'controversial'.

    •  The meeting achieved our objective of deciding the future lf DAH. It was decided that we should continue as we are but scale back on the activities we schedule. We applauded Dave Martin for his efforts in building the organization and welcome his continued input and guidance as we move forward. Two more directors were chosen to meet the conditions of the By-Laws. Our next meeting is set for November 21 at the Woodlawn Library on 9th street in Wilmington. We will be planning our Humanlight Celebration for December followed by wine and snacks. Nancy Plummer will lead the Humanlight planning. The theme for Humanlight is Reason, Compassion and Hope. Chris Cingne volunteered to develop a community service project. The annual meeting will be scheduled for January with election of Directors.
