The Augusta Atheists Book Club
|
Announcing the new Augusta Atheists Meetup T-Shirt: You can see it here Meet other local atheists, freethinkers and heathens. Gather to discuss beliefs and philosophies, and make new friends. I would like to start a book club. First, I would like to guage interest, so you can e-mail me at luke.dough1@gmail.co m if you are intersted. We can pick a book, set a schedule and get to know one another at the first session and discuss segments of reading in subsequent ones. I have a few friends who are not on this list that I know will be interested, and feel free to brink other free-thinkers if we get this thing going. Peace, Luke

What's New?
-
"Hi, I'm Bob. My wife of 42 years, Marsha, and I recently moved to Evans. As life long athiests it's nice to know that there are like-minded people in the area. We're interested in hiking and ecology/natural sciences/wildlife preservation. "
-
"Hey, I just moved to Augusta last year and I would love to meet more people that don't have church on the brain 24/7. I respect everyone's beliefs but organized religion is a sham in my mind. Free thinking and exchange of ideas is the way to go!"
-
"Hi! I am a UU and have always been astounded by how people in the South just accept religion without questioning....I live by the creedo "The unexamined life is not worth living" and think that your group would be a refreshing change of pace!"
-
"A dog-lover and an atheist (skeptic/agnostic/what-have-you). We shall get along well...anyway, Welcome!"
-
"hey, where is this meeting going to be???? you didn't post it..????"
-
"Hey everyone."
-
"Hello, I'm Jack. I'm an avid reader and this seems like it'd be right up my alley."
-
"Hey thaks Luke. But I seem to have made a mistake. I was not neccessarliy looking fo an Athiest book club. And I am not deploying for the time being. This keeps getting pushed back. So far, still in Ft Gordon."
-
"hi, looking for like minded people...."
-
"I've recently discovered the writings of Dawkins, Randi, and Hitchens. They've caught my interest like no religious writings ever have. Most people I interact with are either uninterested or offended by the discussion, so I'm looking for an outlet."
-
"I was a recovering Catholic until about five years ago when my cynicism and general laziness created an atmosphere that didn't include getting up on Sunday to listen to base ideals that stand somewhere between fantasy and insulting my intelligence. "
-
"I was born Mormon, but around 14 started on the path away from religion. I'm still picking the religion out of my psyche...but I guess everyone needs a hobby. I look forward to sharing my thoughts and hearing others as well."
-
"Too bad man, what unit are you in? When are you going? Iraq or Afghanistan? Maybe we'll still be here when you get back. Cheers, Luke "
-
"Cool. Just for the record everybody, this makes between 4-6 people that'll probably be there. I've gotten some offline RSVPs."
-
"I'm in. That's a tuesday, right? Drinking Liberally is on Thursday. -Oi!"
-
"Hi, I'm Luke and I recently got off active duty where I was a Pashto and Arabic linguist. I've had a life-long interest in learning in general, as well as philosophy and skepticism in particular. I hope you will join me in enlightened discussion."
-
"I've read three major athiest-promoting books in the last two years, Sam Harris' "End of Faith," Christopher Hitchens, "God is not Great," and Richard Dawkins, "The God Delusion." I've looked at the works..."
