RE: [atheists-562] hats off to "old punks"

Dear Elena,

I have not heard of an SA rationalist/atheist society supported by "old punks". I do know of a Humanist Society of SA. And I understand from someone who attended one of their sessions that most of their members are in their 60s(?). I say kudos to them for trying to address social issues from a secularist position.

The war against  right-wing religious groups cannot be won on just a legal front. Mega churches have very very deep pockets. Conservative ideologues have the media and elite connections on their side. One lawsuit (or several? How deep are our pockets??) isn't gonna bring down this colossus.

Education of the public (whether they be youths or retirees) is crucial in the battle against blind faith and right-wing politics. Education, public debate, social awareness - I see these activities as positive deeds in the right direction, don't you?

Allan

Hi Mat,
ther is a group at (Adelaide?) university with Ash. You need to meet with Ash. (I also have met with rationalist/atheist society of South Australia and they looked to me a bunch of old punks, they are not proactive) (Feeling very sad, as you will be fighting a Hydra eradicating religion)
Cheers
Elena
