I am celebrating our nations birthday by leaving the country. coincidently the 4th also happens to be my wedding anniversary, (10th if you were wondering). We were doing all the touristy stuff that Toronto had to offer, which included a trip to the Royal Ontario Museum. Their feature for the next few months is "Darwin, The Evolution Revolution". They have documented his life with a focus on his voyage on the HMS Beagle and the writing of "Origin of Species".
The extensive display included fossils that demonstrated evolution, as well as live Galapagos turtles and many personal affects such as personal journals, and letters. Among the personal affects was Darwin's bible! The only book he took with him on the trip, as he had planned to enter the clergy upon his return!
If your travels take you anywhere near Toronto, it is worth the price of admission.

I took a look at the Museum's site, and they refer to "live African spur-thighed tortoises" rather than Galapagos tortoises. This other tortoise gets up to 150 pounds and is said to be the third largest tortoise in the world, so they might still have some pretty big ones, but they may not exactly be Galapagos tortoises, if you're expecting those.

I saw a "Sulcata" -- as they're also called -- just this past summer, and have a pic of one here: http://www.flickr.com... Very cool little guys.

Anyway, thanks for the heads-up. This is a museum show I'd sure like to see.
