I was born into a Christian family. I started questioning that faith in high school and became an agnostic. Later, knowledge of molecular biology and of other cultures turned me into a skeptic, but now I want to declare myself an atheist.
I became an atheist a few weeks ago, when I read "the God Delusion," which made me realize that I had hypocritically been bending over backwards to be nice to believers by telling them that science and faith were compatible, while not being a religious person myself. I would still like to be kind, but not in a way that would compromise my Enlightenment-inspired values.
