Introduction

I was born into a Christian family. I started questioning that faith in high school and became an agnostic. Later, knowledge of molecular biology and of other cultures turned me into a skeptic, but now I want to declare myself an atheist.

When did you become an atheist or agnostic?

I became an atheist a few weeks ago, when I read "the God Delusion," which made me realize that I had hypocritically been bending over backwards to be nice to believers by telling them that science and faith were compatible, while not being a religious person myself. I would still like to be kind, but not in a way that would compromise my Enlightenment-inspired values.

What type of events would you be interested in attending?

What John V. is saying about this Meetup Group

Others should join to substitute for church and other social functions that religious people take for granted (not that atheism is a religion; I'm just saying..).

""Darwin Appreciation Day" was a success. We were able to display the tree of life poster and pass out 90% of our booklets and over 70% of the flyers. Plus, we met some very interesting people. I again thank all those who contributed."

"Yes, SDSU will probably not be one of the targets. I think it's still a good idea to spread a positive message for Darwin on the sesquicentennial of his groundbreaking book, however. I hear the Rational Thought student group has UCSD covered...."

"We now have an official location on campus (it took longer than I thought to approve). We will set up our tent on the east corner of the Open Air Theater, diagonally facing the Aztec Steps."
