As I was flipping through this month's issue of San Diego Magazine I noticed that the Natural History Museum is doing a Charles Darwin exhibit starting on the very same day I scheduled our Reuben H. Fleet Science Center meetup. So, I was thinking maybe we could reschedule the science center outing and walk across the way to the premier of "Evolution Revolution" instead! Darwin: Evolution | Revolution Explore the life and work of Charles Darwin, the biologist whose revolutionary theories on natural selection and evolution changed the face of science forever. This year marks the 200th anniversary of Darwin’s birth and the 150th anniversary of the publishing of On the Origin of Species. In addition to Darwin’s own manuscripts, notebooks, letters, artworks, and personal objects, the exhibition also contains fossils, taxidermy mounts, and living specimens. Curator of Herpetology at the San Diego Natural History Museum Bradford Hollingsworth, Ph.D., and Mark Wheeler, Ph.D., Philosophy Department Chair at San Diego State University are co-curators of the exhibition in San Diego. Exhibition Highlights: * Darwin’s original magnifying glass serves as an iconic object that exemplifies the simple tools that Darwin used “to let Nature come to him.” * Notebooks and letters charting the development of his thinking and the social climate within which he struggled to develop his theory. * Darwin’s pistol and his Bible–the first time these items have been together since Darwin’s five-year voyage on the HMS Beagle, the journey which Darwin called the most important event in his life and confirmed Darwin’s career as a naturalist. * Actual specimens collected by Darwin—beetles, butterflies, moths, bugs, and various fossils. * Fossils and dramatic mounted specimens of the uniquely American modern animal groups Darwin saw, including sloths, rheas, and armadillos. Origin of the Species * An elaborate reconstruction of Darwin’s study at Down House, where he refined his theory of evolution and completed On the Origin of Species. * Contemporary examples of modern evolutionary research, and a section addressing various controversies that have arisen surrounding the theory since its debut. * ...and more fascinating features Admission: Adults: $16 Seniors 62+: $14 Students w/ID and Youths 13-17: $11 Children 3-10: $10 Let's have some fun learning more about Darwin and maybe decide on a good place to get a bite afterward. Hope to see you there!

I know this is short notice, but go ahead and cancel your other plans because this will be way more fun! Let's meet at the Morley Field Disc Golf course! For those new to the concept - it's like miniature golf, only you're throwing Frisbee-like discs into a basket instead of aiming tiny balls towards holes. ALL SKILL LEVELS WELCOME - we're here to have fun, not win trophies. You can learn more here: http://morleyfield.c om/fee-and-course-ru les/ Greens fees are $3 a person, and it's another $1.50 to rent a disc. It'll take about three hours to play all the holes. There is a 6-person-per-group limit, but we can split into however many groups are needed and just sort of mingle them as we play. We'll meet at 11 a.m. in the parking lot, wait about 15 minutes for the stragglers to show up and then head over to the Pro Shop at 11:15 to pay. I've only been once before, and if I remember correctly, they wanted you to leave behind your driver's license when you rent your disc as a sort of collateral. Morely Field is in North Park, near the southern end of Texas Street, although the course is off of Pershing Drive. Directions here: http://morleyfield.c om/fee-and-course-ru les/map-and-directio ns Apologies to Annette for overlapping her event!

Hello, it's me Efren. So I have a buddy that works behind the bar named CJ's at 222 W. Washington Street in the Mission Hills neighborhood. She and I were talking about what would add a little life to the bar on Tue. /Wed. evenings, the nights she works. I mentioned that I have come across a drink that contains tequila, soda water and orange sherbet. I figure it's sort of a "girly" drink because of the orange sherbet. Adriana believes it may be something like a Margarita but she has to work at it and experiment, so we need some test subjects to try this drink for the female type. Sorry the drinks will be regularly priced but you sure would be helping in the construction and assessment of this and maybe other tequila drinks. CJ's looks like a dive bar from the outside but inside it has some nice decor and a patronage of all backgrounds like the workers and students from the UCSD hospital down the street to retirees. Gentlemen, if you are reading this, I guess you can show up, I just thought it's best to get a girl's opinion and input. More info here: http://www.yelp.com/ biz/cjs-club-san-die go

Skully suggested we'll combine volleyball with BBQ...(the healthy with the not so healthy:-) So people who think that bouncing a ball over a net might not really be to their liking can bounce some meatballs around on the grill, or play Frisbee or boccie balls or just sit in the grass and do nothing. Let's do this on Sunday the 25th at 11 AM. We will meet in Balboa Park at the corner of 6th Ave and Maple street. Ulrich

I'm mirroring this from the Humanist Association of San Diego's meetup group. This sounded interesting so I thought I'd attend and post it to our calendar as well. Sunday night we will be having a discussion on the Origin of Species. We will be discussing the 150th publication of the book, and Ray Comfort's ominous 50 pages. We will also be discussing the life of Charles Darwin, the Flying Spaghetti Monster, and the Evolution v. Intelligent Design in the public sphere (From Dover to Louisiana) Come and join us, bring some food to share (pot luck style) and come ready to have a great conversation. This Sunday 6 pm Joyce Beers Center 4065 Vermont Street San Diego, CA 92103 Also, we want to bring you a very special guest later this year, come Sunday to find out who... -Jason (619) 646-2191

Hey all you nonbelievers and freethinkers! This is an event that is based on Katherine's Ladies' Night Out, although I'm opening it to anyone regardless of their DNA. We'll be having dinner at a place that is actually near my place out in Mira Mesa. Yes, I know it's a trip for many, but the bus line goes just past it so it's more easily do-able for more folks (take bus 20 to the Black Mountain and Miramar or Black Mountain and Activity Rd stop and cross the street). I love Indian food, and it's a place that serves animal foods and fleshless foods for those veggie lovers among us. It looks like it'll cost somewhere around $10 (vegetarian who get a basic meal) to about $18 (for flesh eaters who order a drink), and all main course dishes are served with either bread or rice. C'mon out and enjoy some good company on a Saturday night!
