Each Sunday afternoon in December at 2:00 PM the San Diego Hoopdance Meetup is having a HoopJam. (That's hooperspeak for Hooping Party.) This is a FREE, casual event that is open to everyone who practices an "art of dexterity" or would like to learn! This is a great opportunity for jugglers, poi spinners, contact staff spinners, etc...to share their skills with others. And for those of you who are hoop-curious, I'll show you how to get started Hoopdancing. Got an iPod and portable speakers? Extra hoops, balls, clubs, etc? Bring 'em and make some new friends!

We can expect to see a hundred meteors an hour. That's if you are laying on your back watching the sky. We will have access to a 22" telescope and room to set up personal telescopes. We can see Jupiter, galaxies and nebulae, with the telescope. This is at the Tierra del Sol Observatory. Detailed directions are on their site, sdaa.org. Detailed directions are necessary, since it's in the middle of nowhere and dark. There is plenty of parking, a heated room to warm up in, bathrooms, and electrical hookups for portable telescopes and computers. I will have to leave early, 4am. But, other SDAA members will likely be there all night and allow people to stay. There is parking for campers, but no hookups for campers. There are a few conveniences, like a microwave and coffee machine. If you want to use these, bring what you need, coffee, water, cups, cream sugar... In order to make the most of this, you should bring a lawn chair and a sleeping bag. You should expect it to be very cold. I can provide rides to a few people, if they can match my schedule.

*Update* I've changed this meetup date from 11/7 to 12/19 in order to accommodate the Charles Darwin exhibit premier at the Natural History Museum on 11/7. With exhibits to touch, virtual reality to experience, films to see and fun to be had, the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center is an educational, entertaining experience for visitors of all ages. The Science Center features more than 100 interactive science exhibits in five galleries, as well as major traveling exhibitions. Visitors can create colored shadows, design images with a sand pendulum, examine the vibration of guitar strings and get their hands on a variety of intriguing scientific phenomena. The Virtual Zone is perfect for adventurous and inquisitive visitors alike. A 23-passenger motion simulator ride offers white-knuckle thrills, while Do-Undo makes visitors the main attraction, recording and instantly replaying your every move forward (as executed) and backwards (in time reversal), faster and faster. The Virtual Zone also features TryScience!, a multi-person science exploration station, with games and experiments on topics like dinosaurs and dolphins. Admission: Adult: $10.00 for gallery admission / $14.50 for gallery plus IMAX film. Children 3-12: $8.75 for gallery admission / $11.75 for gallery plus IMAX film. Come join us for just the gallery experience or accompany us to the IMAX feature, "Amazon" and explore the majestic amazon basin. If you want to get together afterward for a bite, let me know where you'd like to go and I'll add it to the day's events. Hope to see you there!
