bring $10 worth of Alcohol of your liking. bring cool friends. if you have a group of 5, bring a $50 bottle of liquor. you do the math. if you don't drink, bring food.
we will provide food, mixers, and soft drinks--you provide the "hard drinks."
warning: party tends to be LOUD AND LIQUORED.
i do not know why it says erotic party below--but it sure does sound fun.

Hi folks,

Our group has been around for over two years now and we're celebrating our anniversary!

This year we will be hosting the festivities at Amanda's home in the Banker's Hill area, between Hillcrest and Downtown. Amanda has graciously offered it to us for the party, instead of holding it at Cafe Libertalia as we had originally planned. It's a large place, so we'll have room to party. Invite your godless friends!

Below are the details on all of the fun:

When: Friday, December 12th, 8PM-?
where: Banker's Hill, address to be emailed to yes RSVP's

What to bring:

-One small appetizer or desert
-An inexpensive (perhaps "re-gifted") silly and funny White Elephant gift. No need to purchase anything new, just something creative and strange.

We will be providing the holiday spirits! Feel free to also bring board games, musical instruments or whatever you please.

-Katherine

Cost: $2.00

Hi folks,

A few of us are getting together to make decorations for the Anniversary party next Friday. We'll be meeting in the Hillcrest/downtown area to make darwin theme decorations from whatever craft/art/odds and ends we have around.

Please feel free to join us in an orgy of crafty goodness. Email me if you're interested!

Hello folks,

Come for the fun of playing intriguing board games against people in person at Cafe Libertalia in the heart of Hillcrest. We'll bring a few of our own board games, but you're welcome to bring your own as well. We might even be lucky enough to get a few professional game designers to bring in their in progress creations to test out.

Afterwards if you're hungry, we can cross the street for organic pizza, salads and other fine foods at Pizza Nova.

If you haven't been to Cafe Libertalia Parking can be a bit tricky so here are a few suggestions courtesy of Donna:

"There are usually street parking spots on 4th Avenue and below (3rd, 2nd, etc.) There are $3 all night lots: John's Luggage, 4th Ave (thru the WaMu parking lot from the Cafe); a public lot on 5th btwn Robinson & Pennsylvania; California Bank & Trust, also on 5th btwn Robinson & Pennsylvania."

Hi Ladies,

Come for a relaxing evening of chat and coffee at Cafe Libertalia in the heart of Hillcrest this evening.
If you're hungry, we can cross the street for organic pizza, salads and other fine foods at Pizza Nova.
We talk about everything from Dawkins to decorating each month in a casual venue asked for by popular demand.

Come camp, do offroad driving and see a huge pallet structure burn in Borrego Springs, zipcode 92004, location to be given to those who RSVP yes.

You can camp or leave that night.
Bring whatever you think you will need..Water, beer, food, tents, sleeping bags etc. You can BBQ on a grill there if you want. This will be a fun event under the stars.

Also fill up your gas tank or bring a full gas can if you think you might run out.

4X4's not required, but useful if you want to explore the desert.
No running water or toilets on site.

The drive out is 80-100 miles for most...it takes around 2 hours or less.
Lots of beautiful scenery. Best to drive out before dusk on Saturday.

If you have dune buggies, off road cycles, ATVs etc bring them for some fun!

Estimated distance is around 80-100 miles depending on where you live. Drive time is 2hrs or less. Bring good shoes a hat to shade from sun, and protective clothing. Bandanas and sunglasses are needed if you are going to ride the dune buggies.

People who reply yes should contact each other and try to carpool. It's a long way to drive and best to save on gas. I can meet people in Ramona on Sat or they can just find the event from my directions.

Come out for some fun in the sun!

Scott

Hello everyone!

It can be intimidating to join a new group without knowing anyone, so what could be better than a meeting where getting to know one another is the theme? All new members are invited to attend this bi-monthly event. Libertalia's meeting room in Hillcrest is the place where we'll drink coffee and other warm beverages while chatting.

Look for the Meetup sign, that's us!

We'll have the new member get together every other month, so if you can't come to one, you can always come to another one later.

Some people tell me that reading Dawkins or Harris makes them feel less forlorn in an America where questioning religious dogmas still seems to be one of the big taboos. They feel that atheist writers like Harris and Dawkins are urgently needed in the US today where being a ‘confessing atheist’ is still perceived by many as a recipe for isolation; where a presidential candidate either has to be religious or pretend to be in order to have a chance to be voted into the White House; and where the influence and might of the religious right is widely perceived by secular Americans to be over-inflated and dangerous.
But many also criticize Harris and Dawkins. Harris for example has been accused to “foster an intolerance towards faith, potentially as damaging as the religious fanaticism which he opposes”. Other critics find his analysis of religious extremism flawed. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Harris_(author)). Harris and Dawkins both at times seem to be fighting a straw man or a caricature of religion that might reflect views held at the extreme fringes but overall has not much in common with the religious realities of the vast majority of Christians or Muslims alike.

In our next discussion night we would like to discuss the question if writers like Harris and Dawkins are ultimately helping America to become a more secular AND a more tolerant place - or if they are
ultimately worsening the situation.

If people want to read a little bit beforehand there are many interesting links on the wikipedia article on Sam Harris http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Harris_(author)
I am sure there is much more and if I find other interesting articles, critical of supportive, I will post them later. (Let me know if you find interesting articles that you want me to post.)

We will restrict the size of the discussion group to 9 people this time. But if there is a lot of interest, we will just repeat this discussion a week later.
