Join us for our monthly, ladies only dinner. This is your opportunity for some fun & feisty girl bonding! At the suggestion of our fearless leader, Katherine, we're going to Zia Gourmet Pizza in Normal Heights. They have fancy-shmancy pizza that won't hurt your wallet, and we should have plenty of room to sprawl.

Hello everyone! It can be intimidating to join a new group without knowing anyone, so what could be better than a meeting where getting to know one another is the theme? All new members are invited to attend this bi-monthly event. Look for the Meetup sign, that's us! We'll have the new member get together every other month, so if you can't come to one, you can always come to another one later. Old people (both in terms of age and group seniority are also welcome). The location will be at Kous Kous Moroccan Bistro. You are not required to buy anything, but the food is pretty good and hard to resist. The cost for dinner is about $15. Parking can be a bit tricky, but there are a few $3 and $4 lots around the area and occasionally street parking can be found. $3 parking lots for all day or evening: John's Luggage, 3833 4th Avenue, from 5:30 Mon-Fri, 4:30 Sat., all day Sun; California Bank & Trust Co., 3737 5th Avenue (between Robinson and Pennsylvania Avenues), east side of 5th Avenue, after business hours. Un-named lot across the street from California Bank & Trust Co. and a few doors down from The Hillcrest Inn Hotel (not the lot next to the hotel) on 5th Ave. between Robinson and Pennsylvania, west side of 5th. $4 parking lots for all evening: Union Bank of California, west side of 5th Avenue, between University and Washington, from 5pm, Mon-Fri. -Brian

I know this is pretty last minute, but if you're free tomorrow night a few of us are planning to have dinner at Soltan Banoo in University Heights. It's described as "eclectic Persian," well reviewed, and reasonably priced. Please rsvp by 4pm, so I can make reservations if it looks like it's going to be a large group.

This is up for informational purposes only if anyone in our group is interested in going just RSVP and contact anyone else who RSVPs in order to make arrangements to "meetup" with them if you wish. Movie description: Angels and Insects March 4, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. (118 minutes), 1996 Mr. Haas's film (from a screenplay he adapted with Belinda Haas) has formidable intensity and haunting beauty. If the film maker's fastidious control of his material is no less eerie than the behavior he examines, that only heightens the power of this deeply eccentric vision. As "Angels and Insects" moves toward the startling blend of Darwinism and melodrama at its conclusion, both Rylance and Thomas give precise, measured performances perfectly in keeping with the story's tone. Kensit embodies the tremulous, alluring female of the species in ways that fully capture the film's disturbing intentions. Join us for a fun and relaxed evening of conversation and vegetarian cuisine! We'll meet over dinner at Jyoti Bihanga in Normal Heights. I've never been there, but I've heard good things and it's got great reviews on Yelp, so let's give it a whirl. :-)

I appoligize for changing the date, but we're moving the house all around this week! All are welcome to my house for a casual and fun board game night. You can feel free to bring the games you like from home to add to the bunch here. I have room for about 15-20 people. If you'd like, feel free to bring refreshments (coffee, soda, wine, etc) or anything you'd like to munch on! I will email my address to those that sign up. Thanks! Amanda

President Obama is "first" at many things, including acknowledging nonbelievers in his inaugural address. What does this mean, if anything, for nonbelievers? Is the response of political and religious leaders in the US to his acknowledgment important? Potential topic 2: What do surveys and statistics about religion tell us, really? How do the statistical claims of believers and non-believers stack up against our observations of people's behavior? If someone in the US self-identifies as "Christian" , does it mean anything specific enough to be useful, or is it more like identifying as "American" ? I was trying to get a wine bar but it didn't work out this time. Maybe later. On the Border has free parking, and it's easy to find. Ask the hostess at the front door where we are.

Hi folks, With today's economy so shaky, it can be hard to know what to do with your investments and debts. A member of the group, Kosta, is a financial management expert and has agreed to talk with us about our options and answer questions. To get into the building: People will need to ring the doorbell to the top floor (CR) at which point we can let them in and send the elevator down for them. They can park in Balboa Park directly across the street from the building or on any street. Meters are free after 6PM.
More information on the event from Kosta: -------------------- -------------------- -------------------- -------------------- -------------------- -------------------- The discussion will focus around Comprehensive Financial Planning. We will discuss investment basics, education funding, retirement planning, (Tax Season - Traditional Vs. Roth IRA funding), (Changing Jobs - IRA Rollovers), Protection Planning, and more as well as current economic issues. After a quick presentation, I would prefer this to be a question and answer session thus the topics may vary according to people's interests. If they want to email them ahead I could have more specific answers for them. Thanks again and All my Best, Kosta -------------------- -------------------- -------------------- -------------------- -------------------- ----------------- The cost for this event is $2.00 -Katherine
