***This event will only happen if it's reasonably un-gloomy. If it's cold/cloudy/rainy on Weds at noon, I'll reschedule for the following week.***

Join me and my dog Broccoli for an afternoon of frolicking at the OB Dog Beach. Nothing too crazy - just hanging at the beach, chasing balls, splashing in the surf, etc. I'm one of those people who can spend a whole day on the sand with minimal entertainment, but it's always nice to have company. We can have deep, dark, existential conversations if that's your cup o' tea, but I'm equally open to talking about Daisy of Love. :-)

Hello everyone!

It can be intimidating to join a new group without knowing anyone, so what could be better than a meeting where getting to know one another is the theme? All new members are invited to attend this event.

Look for the Meetup sign, that's us!

We'll have the new member get together every other month, so if you can't come to one, you can always come to another one later.

Current group members are also welcome!

We have a new meeting place, Zia Gourmet Pizza. This newly discovered restaurant in Normal Heights has plenty of room to meet in and the food is tasty and inexpensive. There are also a number of vegetarian and vegan options.

Parking is all street parking in the local neighborhood and is free.

I look forward to seeing you all,

Brian

Hi,
it has been some time since we had a movie night. So I thought we should do that again.
Since I am not living in a house in North Park anymore but a smaller place in Banker's Hill, I have to restrict this to 10 people now. sorry :-)

We will be watching the classic movie "The African Queen" with Bogart and Hepburn.

I will make a soup and have some sodas/juices ready. If you want you can bring drinks or snacks.

See you guys this Sunday,

Ulrich

Join us for our monthly, ladies only dinner. I just found out that Rancho's closed, so we'll head back to Zia's, since it was full of awesome last time. :-)

Hi Folks,

Amanda isn't feeling well and had to cancel playing boardgames at her place at the last minute.

Luckily, Nancy would still like to play and is inviting you all to come to her apartment tonight to play boardgames.
Her place is small, but with the last minute notification, I don't think this will be a problem.

She's located in Mira Mesa/ Black Mountain Rd. Please give her a call to get directions to her place and RSVP.

Nancy's number is: (571) 991-9051

Thank you all!

Inherit the Wind (based on the Skopes Monkey Trial)
April 8, 2009 - 7:00 p.m.
(128 minutes), 1960

Stanley Kramer's Inherit the Wind often seems as immediate and gripping as it did in 1960, mostly because its issues have not gone away. Adapted from the hit play by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, the film is exceptionally true to its source, with virtually all the second half confined to the courtroom. It is a tribute to Kramer's often underrated skill as a director, as well as to the material and the cast, led by Spencer Tracy, Fredric March, and Gene Kelly, that the movie never lets up in tension or focus.

It seems like there may be some problems getting seats to this event. I am going to try to show up about an hour early (6:00pm).

If you can't make it to the event, or fail to get in, but would still like to hang out afterward, we are going to hang out and get some food and coffee.

The tentative plan is that we are going to try to meet outside after the lecture and walk or drive to the Price Center.

Hi folks,

We've found a cozy new location for meetups in Hillcrest called Babycakes. It's a coffeehouse and pastry shop that also serves wine and beer in a charming and spacious craftsman home in Hillcrest.

They have a patio in the front and one in the back as well as couches and seating inside. We'll be wherever we can find room for ten or more people.

There's no topic for discussion planned for this evening's event, so come prepared to chat about subjects that you'd like to share, from current events to philosophical treatises, to Urban Mushing.

I look forward to seeing you,

Katherine

(p.s. Meetup has some horrible glitches lately. If you aren't able to RSVP eventhough only one person has or notice the event is posted at some odd time like 1am in the morning on a Sunday, please let me know and I'll try to fix it. )

The Darwin Adventure
March 18, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.
(91 minutes), 1972

The Darwin Adventure stars Nicholas Clay as 19th century British naturalist Charles Darwin. The film covers the whole of Darwin's life, with emphasis on his volatile evolutionary theories. The "adventure" of the title is Darwin's 1831 fact-finding voyage on the good ship Beagle, in search of nature's secrets in the darker corners of South America. The story ends in Darwin's declining years, during which time many of his theories have been adopted and refined by younger, more broad-minded naturalists.
