Let's have a picnic at Balboa Park. I've found a secluded spot that would be perfect for lounging, a little frisbee, conversation and a little snacking. Come join us for a fantastic day in the sun and bring a snack!

    True. It feels awkward to walk up to random strangers asking if they are the meet-up group for the most distrusted minority in the country. Perhaps we should get a meet-up mascot, something instantly recognizable, yet discrete. Like a 60-ft-tall parade float effigy of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

    The picnic area near Marston House isn't a terribly large area -- maybe the folks that had trouble weren't sure which area was which? A "MeetUp" sign and specific directions can prevent this in the future, though. I know it's embarassing to walk up to people and ask, "Is this the MeetUp?" Then they say, "Which one," and you say, "Atheists," and they start praying for you and handing you leaflets.

    Hi folks, To pay for the $72 fee meetup charges me twice a year to have this group, I'm asking for a tiny $1.00 per person per event fee. Thanks for your understanding.

    • “ It was marred only by the fact that the directions for how to find it left me circling the park for 45 minutes...looking in vain for the sign that was supposed to indicate our group. Otherwise...as always, good folks and interesting conversation. ”

    • “ I had to laugh at myself when I realized that what "snacks" meant to everyone else was fresh fruit and whole-grain crackers, but to me it meant a pan of brownies. ”
