The fastest-growing faith in America is no faith at all. And now some atheists think they need a church.

Personally, I wouldn't join an atheist church. It seems a bit pointless to me, particularly in this cyber-age where like-minded people can connect online. However, I certainly wouldn't oppose an atheist church, unless they promoted ridiculous stuff like vandalising churches and what-not.

Perhaps we could start having our meetings in an old church building...

Isn't there a church in the Valley that's now a nightclub?

To me personally, I always thought of a church as a bit pointless. It was a house of God, and you came to talk to God. What I never could understand is why you needed - couldn't you speak to God where ever...same goes to me for atheism, you don't need a place to practice it - you should live it in your everyday life!

It almost seems to me that as long as you turned up to church every Sunday you could do whatever for the week...as long as you redeemed on Sunday you were a "good" Christian.

I thought the word church (in a christian context) originally referred to the christian community, not to their organisation or building. In that respect, we might already be a 'church'. I'd be happy to declare myself a member of the Atheist Church of Australia but only to annoy any christians in the vicinity.devilish

Seriously, though, we're probably too diverse in our views to agree on much beyond atheism. Which raises the question: if atheists disagree on everything, and we are both atheists, will you be proving or disproving this claim by agreeing with me?wink
