For those of you who know about the American Enterprise Institute, you can probably assume the conclusion of any discussion involving god. The AEI is a rightwing conservative thinktank. So they had this meeting where they seem to generalize a reconciliation between god and science based on the views of a few scientists who believe in both their works and the "works of god." If you read the article linked above, you will note that all participants were agreeable, not a single dissenting voice in the room. |

"... to reject God because of the admitted self-contradictions and logical failings of organized religion would be like rejecting physics because of the inherent contradictions of quantum theory and general relativity."
Yeah it would be exactly like that except a) it's not, and b) to reject god(s) is reasonable enough unto itself by the very definition of it. The self-contradictions and logical failings of religion, admittedly, just make it more fun. I love bait and switch. |

Ok, I read it.
Poorly written, complete with non-sequitor arguments, falsified statistics, and clearly written for an audience needing reassurance of a irrational fairy tale. I really like the secularizing, consumerism bit; ..."secularizing, culture-draining force of consumerism." Ha! Oh, yeah, as if Christians haven't been stuffing Xmas down our throats in every store we go to, with mandatory Xmas music, Xmas marketing etc (Personal experience, I used to work retail-hell in college), and "XMAS savings!" I used to manage some music stores here in town, and we'd get directives from our corporate office to play Xmas music on the overhead from after Thanksgiving to Xmas, AND we'd have to say "Merry Xmas" after every purchase in our stores. Somebody complained and then our corporate office said, "ok, now you have to say "Happy Holidays, or Merry Xmas." Also...you have two religious Christian fanatic Presidents, (the Bush's) telling people to get out and shop during economic recessions. Like I said, not well written at all. Not even enough to take seriously. I wonder who the faithful "Scientists" are they're referring to? If they're really respected scientists or the usual hack who uses Genesis as a resource guide for "where we came from". |

Well I think what happens is they mistake a philosophical debate for a scientific one. It can be confusing especially if you're fucking stupid. I'm sorry was that arrogant?

Me too! Kyle and I were watching Real Time with Bill Maher and Richard Dawkins was on there. He said he has never met a Scientist that was faithful. He said they may have some type of spiritual belief but for a man of science to subscribe completely to those ideologies is complete hypocrisy. He also added, which I found fascinating, that even though he is an Atheist he said it is not 100% sure there is not a great being. He said that as a man of science would never subscribe totally to one belief BUT on a scale of 1-7 (7 being 100% sure) that he was 6.9. LOL Such a great interview! LOVED IT!! The interview is on HBO On Demand for those of you who have TWC. |

I have not seen the Maher interview unfortunately, but a friend from B-more was telling me about it. He said it was great. I have seen Hitchens on Maher a few times and it is always very entertaining. Hitchens is such a smartass...I love it! Righto...so I have read most of The God Delusion and Dawkins does say that he cannot actually prove 100% that God does not exist, but he also says that he cannot prove 100% that a flying spaghetti monster does not exist.

Dawkins said that? Prove it. I will accept nothing less than a virgin-births of evidence!

Yeah I was kidding. Like, he said there's no 100% proof of anything and I said prove it and you give me a link that proves it... but does it? 100% proof? I thought my joke was funny.
I've heard him give that "6.9" speech a million times. It loses it's luster after 3. |
