Hey ya'll,

We have a big Texas wide event coming sometime around Oct-Dec.

It will be a convention-fiesta-meetup-and whatever else we make it. Of course it will be a positive event too.

We'll have speakers, bands, (even a really good rapper), VIP's, and of course all of us will be there. Every atheist, agnostic, freethinker group in Texas will be represented as well as any individuals who want to be there.

So why? So what's the purpose?

Think of why we have our meetups and now think of it on a statewide level and with a purpose of more than a social meetup. The past several years we've had a rise in atheists coming out into the media, society, politics etc, and this is just one part of that activity.

We'll have a website soon so anybody can get the lowdown on time, place and how much it will cost to get in.

This will be a come one come all event, where singles, old, young, kids, families, students, professionals, slackers, loners, social types, military, civilians, atheists, agnostics, freethinkers, and fencesitters, curious George's and anybody else is welcome to come join in on the activities.

For the family portion of the event, there will be face paintings for the kids as well as anything else the mom's on the committee come up with.

We'll have a de-baptism ceremony for those who want to undue what their parents did when they were too young to object. Of course it will be a lighthearted ceremony and certificates will be awarded to those de-baptized.

We'll have Iraq/Afghanistan war vets who are still active duty who will be speaking. We're also going to have some very current/live video from Atheists who are in the trenches in Iraq.

Miguel had a chance to go with me to Austin to visit one of the other members of the planning committee, so Miguel has some info on what's going down.

Jon, was named the Treasurer of the committee as well the guy who will keep us legal.

Annalise agreed to bake her sweets should we need a bake-sale to raise funds for speakers and any other guests and VIP's, as well as venue rental. Of course we have other ways of funding this event.

Since I'm a member of the planning committee please feel free to contact me if you think you'd like to contribute to the event.

There is much more, but the details are being ironed out as we speak.

I'll keep you guys posted on any news.

Thanks!
Miguel

I am gonna have PAul discuss this a bit at our Ruta Maya meetup on the 22nd so we can get input from new members and regular attendees. Then we'll get drunk.

I am a member of the Killeen military association of atheists. Apparently the organizer there is going to be a speaker at the TX convention of ours. Zamecki of TX American Atheists is mentioned in her e-mail. I am not military by the way but I contacted her for another organization. Anyway good job. I am glad to receive her e-mail about this news. See you the 22nd.

Yes Zamecki has informed me he is in contact with her for this Atheist Fiesta.

We're also hoping to get athiest soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines in Iraq and Afghanistan to send us video, either live or just posted on YouTube saying "hi" to the crowd.

Now that's a coup.
