Hi! I'm "new" I've been lurking for a few weeks.

I've been looking for more of a community enviorment since I am a stay at home mom I don't get to go out and meet ppl often. I would also like to expose my children to a variety of beliefs.

On Easter Sunday we attended the sunday morning service and I was just curious if anyone has experienced the UU church here in town and what you thought.

Hi, Deanna! Carol is involved with the local UU church and in particular with their humanist discussion group. She'll be at the meetup on Saturday, so if you come, I'm sure she'd be able to provide you with some good information. Clark has also attended at least one meeting of the Humanist group at the UU. I don't know whether he'll be at the meetup on Saturday, but if he is, you can also get his perspective.

Speaking of Saturday's meetup, I hope you can make it! We'll be listening to a very interesting (and very funny!) routine by Julia Sweeney called "Letting Go of God", which is about her transition from Catholicism to atheism. For a preview, go to Julia Sweeney's web site and select "Sample Audio" to listen to 3 excerpts from the CD.

We normally meet at a restaurant, but we'll be meeting at Janet's house this time so that we can listen to the CD, so if you do come, it's BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch). I hope to see you there!

Hi Deanna,

Sorry I somehow missed your post until now. Must have been my preoccupation with the IRS. :-)

Carol is definitely the person to ask about UU; you can e-mail her through the Meetup site to ask her specific questions.

I have also been going to the Humanist discussion group and helped to lead one session. I think that if you tried going to it, you would get a good idea of what people at the church are like.

We have some old friends who are long-term Unitarians. They told us this joke: "What is the definition of a Unitarian? An atheist with children."

Sounds like it might suit you!

I intend on going to the humanist discussion eventually but right now gas is hella crazy and I'm lucky to get out there once a week, so I make it sunday morning so the kids get something outta it. But hopefully I'll be able to go one nite soon here. I would really like to see what it's all about.

You'd be most welcome. The more the merrier.
