Introduction
I moved here from Springfield, Missouri over 10 years ago to take a new job in computer programming. I would like to meet more people who are willing to embrace rational thought instead of make-believe, omnipotent friends.
How long have you been conscious that you no longer believe in gods? Has the realization altered things in your life?
2-3 years now. I feel more grounded and sure of my surroundings. I'm glad to be rid of the frustration of trying to find the "one true connection" to a god that doesn't exist.
What led you to abandon your faith in the prevailing mythologies of the culture? Was it a sudden realization? Triggered by an event? Or did you just gradually evolve to this position without realizing it until it was done?
This was a gradual change with me. I had doubts as a child, but fear kept me from pursuing my questions. I shed my fear in my early twenties and became a deist. I labeled myself an atheist about two years ago (now in my forties).
