Introduction
I'm 23 and a self described math / physics / computer dork, but in a good way. Was briefly involved with the Atheists Agnostics & Freethinkers club at the University of Illinois as it was first forming.
How long have you been conscious that you no longer believe in gods? Has the realization altered things in your life?
It's been about 7 years since I became an agnostic and about 2 since I realized I'm an atheist. This makes dealing with family...interesting...as they're all still into the catholic thing.
What led you to abandon your faith in the prevailing mythologies of the culture? Was it a sudden realization? Triggered by an event? Or did you just gradually evolve to this position without realizing it until it was done?
All the emphasis on ceremony and silly things like that in catholicism caused me to look into other belief systems which made me a deist. Slowly I realized I was an agnostic. Then I spent time thinking about it and realized I'm an atheist.
