Introduction

I'm currently chairman of the local skeptics group, REALL (the Rational Examination Association of Lincoln Land).

How long have you been conscious that you no longer believe in gods? Has the realization altered things in your life?

Since about 1980/1985 or so (high school/college time period).

What led you to abandon your faith in the prevailing mythologies of the culture? Was it a sudden realization? Triggered by an event? Or did you just gradually evolve to this position without realizing it until it was done?

No sudden "bolt from the blue", nor any anger at God for being mean. Just the slow realization that it didn't really make sense and there wasn't any evidence for it.

What belief system were you raised in?

Presbyterian. Not 100% devoted, but we went to church 2-3 times a month.

Additional Information

"I'm quite busy with a 4-year-old son, so I wasn't sure how often I'd be able to attend meetups, but I've somehow managed to attend nearly all of them!"

What Wally Hartshorn is saying about this Meetup Group

The conversation is always good, but I'm looking forward to having the occasional presentation, DVD viewing, book discussion, etc. We haven't done any significant publicity yet, so we should probably start doing so.
