Introduction
I’ve recently moved from Ithaca, New York, to Springfield. While in Ithaca I belonged to Freethinkers of Upstate York [www.funygroup.org],
and I’d like to see non-religious people here have a similar group to turn to for support and camaraderie.
How long have you been conscious that you no longer believe in gods? Has the realization altered things in your life?
The realization gradually solidified after I graduated from college. When I met my husband in grad school, who was a frank atheist, that crystallized it for me.
What led you to abandon your faith in the prevailing mythologies of the culture? Was it a sudden realization? Triggered by an event? Or did you just gradually evolve to this position without realizing it until it was done?
Happened gradually. Process begin in studying the Lutheran catechism, which hold up Luther as an example. So I followed him and questioned the church! Process was completed by a college education in biology with a minor in history.
What belief system were you raised in?
Liberal Lutheran.
