If anyone has a topic they'd like to focus on at this Meetup, let me know and I will post it here. Otherwise, it?ll be our usual freewheeling conversation. Sorry I don?t have more time to organize right now. I have to do a certification test for work Nov. 3. Perhaps after that I will become more sane. :-) Janet

First things first: the October Meetup will be moved up in time one week, to October 13th. This is because my employers have scheduled a mandatory meeting for the 20th which would make it impossible for me to attend. This should work out reasonably, since the September Meetup fell as early in the month as it possibly could have. As of now, we will be at the usual place and time: 11 AM, at the Buffet. If this changes I will e-mail people. If anyone has a topic they?d like to focus on at this Meetup, let me know and I will post it here. Otherwise, I will probably talk about my article in the October issue of Free Inquiry, which has just arrived in the mailboxes of subscribers. It should be available at Barnes and Noble in few days. The issue is a special one focusing on death and dying from the point of view of the non-religious. There is quite a spectrum of viewpoints there. I'm sure there are also a lot of different ideas about this amongst group members. So let's talk about that over lunch! Nothing like contemplating your mortality to give you a good appetite. :-) Janet

As of now, we will be at the usual place and time for September: The 15th, 11 AM, at the Buffet. If this changes I will e-mail people. We'll have a bit of a formal agenda this time: Clark has agreed to do a brief reprise of his talk on evolution, which he presented to the Humanist Discussion Group at the Unitarian Church. The talk will be primarily informed by David Sloan Wilson's book, Evolution for Everyone: How Darwin's theory can change the way we think about our lives. It might be helpful if we all thought about this in the meantime. How has understanding the theory of evolution changed something for you personally? We can share stories and insights along this line. Janet

We will be at the usual place and time for August: The 18th, 11 AM, at the Buffet. I don't know about everybody else, but this hot weather is seriously eroding my ambition! As of right now, let's just aim for friendly discussion along the usual lines of books, movies, and the evils of religion in politics. If something more concrete comes up, I'll update this listing. Anybody with suggestions, e-mail me! Janet

Back to the usual place and time for July! The 21st, 11 AM, at the Buffet. Along with our usual casual discussion, let?s talk seriously about two exciting possibilities. One, we could make a joint field trip with St. Louis Atheists to Chicago, where the Natural History Museum is currently hosting a special exhibit on Charles Darwin. This could be done by train, with us joining the St. Louis group as they pass through Springfield. That would be inexpensive and easy for everyone. The exhibit will be in place until December. Two, several St. Louis people expressed interest in setting up a joint book club with us, one that would meet every few months. Let?s talk about the practical aspects of getting this arranged so that people will actually participate. See you on the 21st! Janet

MAKE A NOTE: Our June meeting will be at a different date and time! We will meet on the fourth Saturday, June 23rd, instead of the third one. The St. Louis Atheists' Meetup is coming to town on that day, so we can have a get-together with them! Details have finally been nailed down. We will meet at Gateway to India (on Chatham just south of Wabash) for a late lunch at 2PM. They stop serving at 3, so don't be late! The St. Louis Atheists are going to the Lincoln Museum as the primary purpose of their outing. If anyone wants to join them, that can be coordinated. Let me know. My experience with these people is that they are a sociable bunch and very good company. I will post final details here as they are arranged. See you there!
