We have scheduled the next book discussion for July 12th at 6PM. We are reading The Reason for God: Belief in an Age of Skepticism by Timothy Keller.

This month, we are doing something a little different. Socrates said "The Unexamined Life is Not Worth Living." Well, the same could be said for the unexamined belief (or lack thereof) -- it is not worth holding. So, this month we read a book of religious apologetics. Publisher's Weekly says "Keller mines material from literary classics, philosophy, anthropology and a multitude of other disciplines to make an intellectually compelling case for God." It should be interesting to see how the "other side" uses reason and logic to explain their beliefs, and to discuss the efficacy of the arguments contained in this book.

I agree with Claire. I've heard all the so-called reasons there is a god and don't believe any of them. I'll be glad to come and listen though and give my views.

Who attended?

    •  I didn't care for the book, but I liked the discussion. I am terrible about references without Google.
    •  This was a very good meeting. Several of the participants had read the book carefully and marked important sessions. We got into some fairly deep topics and everyone contributed to the discussion. Jennifer steered the conversation back to the book whenever we digressed away from it too long. The group also discussed possible books for the next meeting and settled on one. The only downside to this meeting was the length (4 hours). I think it would be good to keep the actual book discussion to about 2 hours and then give a clear ending signal for that part of the meeting.
    •  It was nice talking to like-minded people.
