Introduction

My name is Anton, I'm a college graduate (Simon's Rock, BA in Theater, 2005) and aspiring writer from New York City. I can usually be found reading and writing at the library, or riding around town on my bicycle.

Additional Information

"My whole introduction with atheism started when I decided to write a book concerning the conflict between religious dogma and freedom of thought. This led me to research various religious creeds before ultimately realizing that nobody really knows anything about God and that I don't need superstition to determine my life. Some people get along fine with faith, but I can't seem to live on pure belief alone. It's not because I won't make a leap of faith every now and then, it's just that I find it safer to walk the bridge of reason and knowledge. I guess you could call me a skeptic, and I thank those such as Penn and Teller who helped lead me to this: "The events and characters depicted in the damn Bible are fictitious. Any similarities to anyone, living or dead, is purely coincidental." I've just discovered Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials, a trilogy which seems to display our religious criticism very nicely. I was wondering, have you read this book? And if so, are you more a Lyra or a Will? I'll let you know when my book comes out. It's going to be a whole lot different, but I'll try to make it a good read. And hopefully less preachy and with a stronger narrative than the Bible."

What Anton is saying about this Meetup Group

I am glad to have found this group and even though I only recognized one member of the group from previous meetings I was glad to meet new members and I would like it if others who were atheists would join us, since it would help both parties gain support and community, which anyone can use.
