SUMMARY:New York City Atheists Meetings June Meetup
DESCRIPTION:New York City Atheists Meetings\n\nFLASH! \n\n \n“God Loves You
”: Aren’t You Tired of Hearing That?\n \nWhat Does It Mean? Why Are They An
noying Us? How Can We Stop It?\n\n \nOne member who has done street tabling
for NYC Atheists told us: “If one more religious person walks by and says
‘god loves you’ to me I’m going to jump over the table and punch ‘em!”\n\n
\nWhoa\, there. We’re not sure even these religious people know what these
phrases they throw at us mean. Love is an odd concept in the alleged relati
onship of god and man. Does it mean that god supposedly thinks about you an
d cares about you—if so\, why\, in this world of billions of people? Or doe
s it mean love in the physical sense? In which case\, isn’t god a dirty old
man?\n\n \nHow do we handle the sticky situation when slogans of this type
are thrown at us\, when the insincerity and phoniness of these phrases are
indeed an irritant. And what about “god bless you”--or worse--“I’ll see yo
u in hell” or “blasphemer!” Do we respond with anger or courtesy? Do we dea
l with the subliminal insult behind the words or do we deal with the actual
\, sometimes irritatingly kind\, words themselves?\n\n \nHow Do You Handle
It?\n\n \nCome to the Tuesday evening Meetup at the Stone Creek Bar and tel
l us how you deal with the prevalent\, all-too-common occurrence of having
to deal with other people’s public religious comments and observances! Plea
se\, no fisticuffs.\n\n \nWe will also discuss our new bus advertising prog
ram\, due to debut on June 22rd.\nTell us what you think about us putting o
ur atheist slogans out there in front of people who have been advertising g
od for generations. Of course\, our bus ads are a drop in the bucket compar
ed to the barrage of in-your-face “Jesus Saves” ads that we have endured ov
er the years.\n\n \nCome\, let it all pour out! Vent your annoyance! And he
lp us figure out how we can counteract the volcano of Jesus ads\, TV shows
 and big-tent hollering by the religionists.\n \n\nEVENT SUMMARY\n \n\nWHAT:
“God Doesn’t Love Us—or\, How Our Bus Ads Can Help Drown\n
Out the Barrage of Jesus Ads” –a discussion sponsored and led\n
        By New York City Atheists.\n\n \nWHEN: Tuesday\, June 26\, at 7 pm
 \n\n \nWHERE: Stone Creek Bar & Pub\, Back Room\n 140 East
27th St. (3rd/Lex)\n\n \nCOST: Free. But because Stone Creek lets us use
their room at no cost\,\n we expect you to buy at least one
drink-- or food. The munchie menu\n is good and moderately pr
 iced. Stone Creek’s repertoire of beer is\n competitive.\n \n
