SUMMARY:NYC ATHEISTS PHILOSOPY CLUB
DESCRIPTION:New York City Atheists Meetings\n\nFLASH! \n\nSocrates Said\, “
The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living…”\nSo\, How Do We Examine Our Lives?\n\nWe at New York City Atheists are go
ing to find out!\n\n \nDr. Charles Lantz\, our NYCA Philosophy group leader
\, is back from his Atlanta home just in time to guide our Wednesday\, May
13th session on this fascinating topic. “We’ll look at what an examined lif
e is\,” says Dr. Lantz. “And we’ll consider\, how do we examine our lives?\
n\n \nWe’ll also consider: Why is it important to examine our lives? What c
an we gain from it? How much of our lives depends on current forces in soci
ety and is beyond our control?\n\n \nDr. Lantz\, who commutes to New York f
rom Atlanta\, has this time brought with him the brand-new Teaching Company
course on Socrates. Up to now\, we’ve led up to Socrates\, examining what
philosophy is and how it has figured in history. We will listen to one 45-m
inute talk on Socrates by a top university Socrates expert and then\, forti
fied by noshies and drinks\, we will discuss the meaning of life as seen by
  this incomparable wise man.\n\n \nNo Homework\, No Papers\n\n \nThere are
no reading assignments\, no homework\, no papers to write—just come and lis
ten\; there is just the mind-stimulation of new ideas thrown at you by a le
ading expert and then a roundtable discussion of them with friendly atheist
colleagues.\n\n \nYes\, sometimes the discussion gets heated. We are deali
ng with life and death topics and ideas that are going to make you think an
d question.\n\n \nDr. Lantz\, the gentle and charming academician whose pro
fessional expertise is in science\, has participated in similar philosophy
discussion groups in Atlanta and has found that this kind of learning is a
stimulating supplement to our educations\, particularly if one’s college ed
 ucation focused on other subjects.\n\n \nCall Early\, Limited Seating\n\n \
nBecause we have limited seating in our new meeting location\, we are limit
ing attendance to the first 15 members who respond. The location will be gi
ven to you when you call\; it is a private residence.\n\n \nCome\, stimulat
e your brain! Enjoy thrashing out the Big Questions of life with fellow tr
