It's very short notice, but I hope you can join your fellow atheists to see Religulous. The film starts at 7:30, but I bumped the time up a little bit so we can meet up more easily, and I would highly recommend you buy your tickets ahead of time, because this seems like it'll be very popular. After the movie, we'll head out for food and chat--I was thinking we could go to Nick's Roast Beef (16 S. 2nd St.). We'll meet in the lobby area (top of the escalators) around 7. As showtime approaches, we'll move to the screening room, and I'll stay by the door to greet stragglers. I'll be carrying a gray Godzilla stuffie so you can recognize me. From the Ritz website: Religulous follows political humorist and author Bill Maher ("Real Time With Bill Maher," "Politically Incorrect") as he travels around the globe interviewing people about God and religion. Known for his astute analytical skills, irreverent wit and commitment to never pulling a punch, Maher brings his characteristic honesty to an unusual spiritual journey. Directed by Larry Charles (Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, "Curb Your Enthusiasm"). The film's official website Online Ticket Sales * Landmark Theatres.com. They will send a confirmation email which you need to print, and take with you to the theater along with your credit card to pick up your ticket.

Journalist and author Lauri Lebo will discuss her book, The Devil in Dover, about the 2005 Intelligent Design trial Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District. This event is presented by the Freethought Society of Greater Philadelphia (FSGP) From the Secular Book Club Meetup: In December 2004, following the Dover area school board's decision to teach intelligent design in ninth-grade biology classrooms, eleven parents sued, sparking a federal constitutional challenge. Lauri Lebo, a small-town reporter who covered the trial, knows not just the legal case and science, but the people on all sides of the divisive battle. In her book, The Devil in Dover, Lebo traces the compelling back story of this pivotal case described by some as a perfect storm of religious intolerance, First Amendment violations, and an assault on American science education. In a community divided across unexpected lines, the so-called activist judge, a George Bush–appointed Republican, eventually condemned the school board's decision as one of "breathtaking inanity." Lebo follows the story through its surprising twists, pondering whether this was a national war playing out in a small town, or a small-town political battle playing out on the national stage. As a "local girl" with a fundamentalist Christian father, Lebo provides an account that is both fascinating and moving, as she thoughtfully probes one of America's most divisive cultural conflicts—and the responsibility journalists have when covering such a controversial story. Lauri Lebo has been a journalist for 20 years. As part of an investigative reporting team, she helped solve two civil rights-era murders. As the York Daily Record's education reporter, she covered intelligent design's First Amendment battle. The winner of numerous state and national awards, she lives in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Free and open to the public.
