Biblical Quotes Said to Adorn Pentagon Reports - New York Times

A series of cover sheets for intelligence reports written for Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld and other senior Pentagon officials during the early days of the war in Iraq in 2003 were adorned with biblical quotations, and appeared Sunday, six years later, on the Web site of GQ magazine.

Jimmy Wang has recommended this article from Scientific American: "Never Say Die: Why We Can't Imagine Death"
From the article:

  • Almost everyone has a tendency to imagine the mind continuing to exist after the death of the body.
  • Even people who believe the mind ceases to exist at death show this type of psychological-continuity reasoning in studies.
  • Rather than being a by-product of religion or an emotional security blanket, such beliefs stem from the very nature of our consciousness.

Public Transportation

Subway: the location is within easy walking distance of the 5th Street station of the Market Frankford Subway Line.

Regional rail: all Septa passenger rail lines pass through Market East station. From there one can take the subway from 11th Street station eastbound to 5th.

Bus: The 9, 21, and 42 Septa buses travel past the location.

While you are all enjoying your dinner and erudite discussion, please think of how much fun we'll have when Brother Sam comes to town!

    •  Fun night, as always! It was great to see so many new people. Hope to see you all again soon!
    •  Some were interested last night in the "Socrates Café" discussion group (not a meetup group) so here's the info. http://toddmarron...
    •  Cosi was so noisy that it was impossible to talk to anyone who wasn't sitting next to you or right across the table from you. I would like to meet somewhere quieter, like the second floor of Starbucks at 19th and Chestnut. I know the draw at Cosi is the beer, but since the beer drinkers go to a bar afterwards, I would appreciate their going dry during the meeting.
