Because atheists aren't scary. In fact, they are nice, smart, fun people who happen to not believe in God.

Hello everyone, first let me say that nobody can do all by himself, so I'm here to gether with you friends and try to give my best share to better improve this group. Also just to introduce myself I'm a convicted atheist and no doubt fits in my head. The only thing I'm glad to believe is in real friends. Thanks

I love it!. Where else can you meet so many different kinds of people who are all atheists? It is such a relief to be among people where you don't have to watch what you say. It's nice to meet people who know what my American Atheist medallion is, rather than freaking out when they are told what it is.

I didn't meet up with the group, per se - I haven't yet attended any meetings, but enjoy the meet-up announcements, because through them, I've been able to catch Dr. Tyson and PZ Myers speak.

Others who are atheist should absolutely come out to socialize with like-minded people since meeting an atheist can be a rare event everywhere you go.

Stop living in a world of contradictory, supernatural fairy tales. Welcome to the real world. Yes, most of them still operate like they are planning to live forever. (very few of them are planning to die. Ever.) Get over your own mortality, break free of the chains that bind you and begin to share responsibility of steering the boat while you are here and most capable of making a difference. Help us. Help the children. Help everyone get better and move forward. We are all we have. Cherish your relationships. Build bridges. Exploit the bamboozled. That last one was a joke. Learn. Ask why. Comfort the One's who can not fathom a world without a master. We will win because we have accepted responsibility. Slaves are not in charge. We are. E Pluribus Unum Mike Moore [masked]

I want to keep religion out of where it doesn't belong. I found it reassuring to know there are people who don't believe as I don't. This group is working to make the stigma associated with not believing in the unbelievable a thing of the past.

Any atheist in the Philadelphia area who wants to get to know other atheists should join this meetup group. Its nice to talk about my lack of religious faith with others who understand where I am coming from without being judgemental.

Others should join the group so they can know they are not alone in their belief system. In your communtity there are others like you that have thrown off the shakles of mythology and have outgrown the fables that they were indoctrinated into as children. Knowing there is a community out there that feel as you do is a very empowering experience

  •  Being an atheist or agnostic can be pretty lonely sometimes. There is also so much right-wing prejudice against anyone who does not believe in God.

  •  Rather than think of the Meetup as a "group dinner" at a long table, perhaps it could be held more as a "cocktail party" where people could mingle in smaller groups thruout the evening; it would give each person a better chance to meet all the others.
