Hello,
I saw a card advert in one of my train carriages the other day and it read "I AM the way, the truth, and the Life. No man comes to the father unless he comes through me." www.JESUSlambofGod.org This is in direct breach of The Code of Conduct for the Advertising Standards Authority. Please see the file I have entered. I am annoyed that there are different rules for religious advertising than other organisations. Surely they should be held to the same conducts. I don't know how but perhaps we could campaign to change the law. Any suggestions. Richard p.s. If you want to use the info on the file to make your own complaint to the ASA, you can. I'll answer any questions. |

Well done Richard. This is just the sort of thing that's needed. If everybody did something like that, it would make a real difference.

Great stuff Richard- It shows just how ridiculous such claims are & it's one of those little things that we can all do on a regular basis, and with reference to bias on BBC radio as well.
A couple of questions, what is a 'train card' or is it just something someone has left on a seat, & is the complaint to the ASA or a specific part of the ASA or London Underground bylaws? I have added the ASA weblink onto the 'pinned' Links thread. Sue |

The Train Card is the advert on the top part of the walls in the carriages, usually next to the Destination Display. I have put a couple of photos up on the 'Photos' and Atheist Values section.
The complaint is directly with the ASA who is in charge of all advertising in this country. They have already replied and will make an investigation. Obviously, the more people that complain (Can be done directly through their website), the more they have to take the complaint seriously. We really need to come together on this one. This can be a test case which we can use for further campaigns. If we can at least use their rules to prevent the ridiculous adverts that are outside churches and on the internet, it might make some headway in creating a level playing field. I would love to see a poster that has to read "Jesus saves....... probably!!!" If possible, I might give a quick talk on this at the next meeting. Edited by Richard Francis on May 14, 2008 2:46 PM |

Imagine the outrage if there were Islamic ones on the tube.

Interesting that they spend nearly 80,000 pounds on "Advancement of the gospel". Great charity work.
I don't think that there would be an outrage about Islamic faith. Have you looked at the internet recently (Youtube especially). They seem to know where the future of communication is going, particularly with the youth, and they are mastering it. Far more dangerous than tube adverts. ASA are looking at applying the same code of conduct for the internet but as always are dragging their feet. By then, the damage could be done. |

The trouble with the ASA is that it has no legal force. It still works extremely well, because the vast majority of advertisers voluntarily comply with it. However, I doubt whether the Church of Living God would consider itself bound by anything but "God's Law". It might be better to target CBS Outdoor Limited.

Imagine the outrage if there were Islamic ones on the tube. Actually if there were Islamic ones on the tube I'm afraid there would be less chance of complaint, due to political correctness and fear leading to the widespread appeasement of Islam. It would be interesting to see though, and I for one would certainly complain. |

Nice one Richard. Very well spotted and I think your direct action is great on this. Let us know of the outcome. I had seen this idiotic advert too and this kind of thing is offensive. As Edmund Burke said... http://www.gavinorlan... |
