Louisville Premiere of The God Who Wasn't There, a powerful new documentary by Brian Flemming that claims Jesus never existed as depicted in the Bible. Afterwards, a panel discussion featuring everyone from evangelical leaders to atheists.

THE GOD WHO WASN’T THERE, a new documentary by Brian Flemming, is popularizing questions about the historicity of Jesus Christ as described in the gospels. Evangelical Christianity, which depends on the literal veracity of the Bible, has become a critical element in today's most important public policy issues. In light of the questions raised in the film and the latest Biblical scholarship, has the Christian faith lost its historical underpinnings? What should be the role of Christian faith in American society and politics? On August 23rd in Louisville, KY, we ask a distinguished panel these and many other questions critical to our times.

The Universist Movement brings together the conservative Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, its local critic the Highland Baptist Church, a University of Louisville religious historian, and Brian Flemming, all in person, and in one very grand room - the Kentucky Theater in downtown Louisville. The event includes the Reverend Joseph Phelps, who sparred with Southern Seminary's support for "Justice Sunday" and participated in a rival "Social Justice Sunday." Rev. Phelps and the Dean of Southern Seminary are both panelists.

The event begins with the Kentucky Premiere of The God Who Wasn’t There at 6:30PM, followed by the panel discussion at 8:00PM. The event occurs at the Kentucky Theater Project, located at 651 S. 4th St. in downtown Louisville. The Universist Movement, committed to evolving religion, is a nonprofit organization based in Birmingham, AL. Admission is free.

PANELISTS
· Dr. Russell D. Moore: Dean of the School of Theology and Senior Vice President for Academic Administration of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
· Rev. Joseph Phelps: Pastor of Highland Baptist Church in Louisville, KY.
· Karen Spierling, PhD: Historian, specializing religious history, social and cultural history and the Reformation at the University of Louisville.
· Brian Flemming: Film director and playwright.
